    Cool Illinois 827 Russian

    Just received it today!

    Nice!

I wanted a strop with real linen. This one is 2.5 wide and seems plenty wide to use. Very similar to my vintage ebay buy.Feels a bit stiff, but feels good on the strop.

I think this is now my favorite!

    Default Good one

Jeff....I've used an 827 for 20+ years, and it still works
    for me!

One thing....There was a recent post (1-2 weeks ago?)
re: care and feeding of 827's. Note that there was some
    disagreement on that subject.

    Cheers,
    Paul

From those that use the Illinois 827 Russian strop, it seems that it does take some time to break them in. I guess this strop just requires a bit of patience?

After a week I find it has a fairly good draw, although the linen side is a bit stiff still. It is such a classic looking strop that I'll give it a chance!

Also it just feels right in my hands.
