And it worked great!
A little background. I bought a new TI from the AOS at the mall (sorry, I like to handle something this personal before I buy it). It was not the most expensive, in fact the least expensive, black handle. Not sure which model cause it has the AOS label on the blade. Anyhow, I also bought a few vintage raors off eBay about the same time, thinking I could mess around with sharpening those without ruining a new blade. So I used a Spyderco to hone one of the vintages, and got it close to as sharp as the new TI. (they both take the hair off my forearm with about the same drag.) I have read here that new blades aren't always "shave ready" despite the fact that they are new, and I found this to be true. Chin hair was almost impossible to get through with the TI. I know part of this was because I am a nooB, but heck it wouldnot go through no matter what angle I tried.
So anyway, I also bought a dual Mountain strop from CS, and a tube of TI strop paste. THe 'canvas' part of the strop does not look like canvas to me, so I was reluctant to put the paste on it. I also read I should leave the leather strop w/o paste. So I decided to make a cheapo out of denim. I took an old, clean pair of jeans, and stapled it taut (double layer) on a flat piece of PVC board. I applied the paste in X fashion as described somewhere on here, and viola! 200 passes and the edge of my old vintage is shining like a mirror! So I took my new Ti to it too. I took a magnifier first, and looked at the edge. I could see some grind scratches on it. After stropping the heck out of it on the paste, then the leather, then the plain cloth strop it looks swesome, and darn near passes the HHT.
I shaved with it, and definitely noticed a major difference, especially in the chin. Still have trouble, especially under the chin. And my face is raw from shaving, probably too much pressure, but I am psyched with my new $1 strop!.
Oh yeah, my wife now calls me Scarface since I started straight shaving, I wonder why?
