    Default SRD Horsehide Strop

Has anyone got a chance to try it yet?
How does the draw compare to SRD Premium I or IV?

    Thanks guys.

Well, you've given me cause to come out of lurking...

I picked up one of the SRD horsehides a while ago when they first came out, and I've been playing with it for a while. At first it felt a little odd to strop on (But it's my first "new" horsehide, that could explain it... Anyone?) It felt like there were different amounts of draw at different locations. Not enough to mess up stropping, just surprised me. However, after a lot of palm rubbing like I've seen suggested, and sufficient break in time, I love it! The draw is nice and mild, and it leaves a hellish sharp edge.

Compared to the Premium I and IV, it has the least draw, maybe neatsfoot will change that

I have never met a new horsehide strop that wasn't slick as owl**** when new. That said, the horsehide strops will develop a nice draw as you break them in and neatsfoot oil definitely helps. I usually use 2-3 light applications rubbing the oil in well and then let it set over night with each application. This is followed by a lot of palm rubbing on the strop until my palm feels warm. It can take a few months to get one really broken in to where you want it. We went with a traditional thickness on the strop to make sure they were easier to break in rather than some of the thick stuff that has been on the market of late. Almost every one who takes the time to break them in loves them. They are definitely one of my favorite strops.

    Have fun,

    Lynn
