Conditioning your Strop with Neatsfoot Oil
I see it recommended often for people to condition there strops with some neatsfoot oil , now I love neatsfoot oil got a 20ltr drum of it in the shed have used it on leather hunting gear and hides Ive tanned over the years in my opion its the one of the best leather conditioners there is ..but it must be remembered a little goes a loooooooong way , as to much will create moisture and eventualy ROT leather ...so remember a little goes along way

That's all I used before I learned about pastes....I still use it on my main strop.

Thanked: 3795I prefer to apply it to the back side of the strop so that I do not alter the draw of the working side.

Thanked: 983I find it simpler to just tell people to avoid its use. I have learnt from my old mistakes just how easy it is to overdo it. If they use a product containing neatsfoot, that's usually ok. But for those that have straight neatsfoot and no real idea of it's affect on leather...Practice on something expendable. Or go out and buy a nice tub of beeswax based leather treatment instead.
