Thanked: 29First time stropping! Not that bad...... i think....
Gentlemen,
Long after i registered on SRP, i bought my first SR (W&B). Second razor is on the way, but that's another story. In time i also bought the necessary things to make everything complete.
Had about three shaves with the SR, before it began to tug and pull (NOT a nice feeling, i can tell you )
So the time came for my first stropping of the SR. Scared out of my mind, afraid to ruin my strop (I read numerous posts about fellow members who did just THAT). NOT intentionally, mind you, but because of the "lack of knowledge" of HOW to strop correctly.
Been reading a lot, trying to get ALL the knowledge i could get concerning stropping. I discovered lots of threads (didn't know i could actually DO that ), and found videos posted by hi bud gl and The_Pastor (among others). With MORE advice from ben.mid, i started stropping. Took me a while, but eventually got there. NO nicking of the strop (Thank God), and a razor that was (almost) shave ready. Not exactly a fan of the HHT; prepared myself and had an almost BBS shave.
Wanted to share this with you.......
I would also like to thank the aforementioned members in particular for their input regarding stropping; MUCH APPRECIATED!!
Regards,
RazorBack

Congratulations!
Practice makes perfect and remember these simple tips:
1) no pressure
2) tight strop
3) flip the razor on the spine
4) go slow
You'll pick up the pace as you get more confident!

Nice job!
If you want to practice more, get a 1" bulldog clip, cut a strip of newspaper and practice stropping on that.
If you cut the paper, work on flipping the razor and if you pull the paper out of the clip you're pulling on the strop too hard or using too much pressure on the razor. Its a really good way to practice and it gives you immediate feedback as to what to correct!
But follow the tips fpessanha gives and you wont go wrong!
Well done!

Thanked: 29fpessanha,
Did exactly what you stated. Only problems that occurred were:
1) Was about to do just THAT several times; had to keep total control all the way.......
2) Almost as above; had to correct that many times (strop TOO loose)
3) THAT is the most tricky part so far for me. Been studying all the posted videos i have stored on my harddrive, and i think THIS will take a long time to master.......
4) A question i asked earlier; should this be done FAST or SLOW??? Slow is no problem; just takes MORE strokes......
Thanks for the congrats, tips AND support!!
