I keep seeing this talk about graphite on a strop. Can someone tell me how graphite helps the stropping process?I just don't see it. Why not powdered teflon or oil up a strop so it always has an oiled slick surface on it?

I have used graphite (and still use it) but cannot explain how it works. My mothers the same with motor cars.

I also use an oiled strop regularly - creates a good edge and is also good for post-stropping the razor to make sure the edge is protected.

I was reading it on another thread, the concept so I understand is that compounds such as graphite are abrasive but at such a fine level (0.001 micron) that that if used as a stropping compound they will keep a razor in better condition without comprimising the overall integrity by removing copious amounts of steel EVERY time you use the strop.
