    Default New SRD Strop

I got a new Straight Razor Designs 3” Black Latigo strop with the felt option. I have been wiping my palm along the length often, but when I bring a razor to it, it seems the spines are picking up some leather like shaving the strop. I go to my Vintage Blades 3” Red Latigo and have no issue, so I don’t believe this is a stropping technique issue.

What are your thoughts? Should I condition the SRD strop with Neatsfoot or Mink oil, or Lexol Leather Conditioner?

NOTE: I asked same question on B&B, and then thought... duh.. a SRD strop, where better than SRP to get an answer

I think this is a common occurrence for new latigo strops. How long has it been going on?

Probably the wax from the latigo treatment....

Just for the record, SRP and SRD have no affiliation, although I know sometimes over on B&B they are talked about as though they are the same thing.

I think latigo has a pretty high oil content
You may be squeesing out some of the exsess at the early stages of breaking in

Not sure im correct but conditioning it dont seem a good idea to me

    Default Same Experience

I'm trialling a latigo strop and have been getting the same sort of thing. For me it's a brown wax like substance that gathers on the spine (the leading edge) as I strop.

I queried this with the maker and he confirmed it's the oils in the strop plus (I can't remember the exact term) the waxes used in the conditioning process.

Over 2 weeks the residue being picked up by my razors has decreased, I imagine you'll find the same thing.
