Thanked: 62Strop performance
I read about all of the differant kinds of leather and fabrics used to make strops, so is there a differance in performance or is it more of a personal prefferance thing? Will they all accomplish the same thing?

I think all "good" leather strops will do a "good" job. The main thing to be concerned about would be with cheap poor quality leathers or strops that may have who knows what embedded in the leather.
Linen or other materials have their own role in stropping but don't replace leather. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

From my experience all quality strops do the same job. The main difference is the look and feel of differing strops. Some can seem very luxurious.

what I use to strop came from a leather shop and is the same stuff they make belts out of. I saw them cut it from the roll and I sanded it a little when I got home.
maybe something else would do better but I've been using it for about a year. I cut part of it and glued it to a paddle. that works well too. the rest of it I have hanging over a towel rod.
