    Default New strop..

    Hey guys,

I'm thinking about getting a new strop, but I'm completely lost as to what exactly I should get. My current strops are Dovo XL Russian Leather, Short Ambrose Spanish Leather strop. What would you recommend?

I'd go for one of the SRD ones, either the P4 extra long (my dad has one and its great!) or the P1, which I havent tried myself but I have heard nothing but good things about it.

I have the SRD 3" black latigo with webbed fabric and thats a great strop. If I was going to get another one I'd go for the P1 with cotton herringbone weave.

Let us know what you go for..!

I think you should have a look at Neil Millers strops at the strop-shop.com or one of those Jap ones sure looks _very_ nice aswell.

All good advice. I like the stuff that SRD puts out. I had a SRD Buffalo leather and it was great. I also really like the japanese strops and what Neil makes, but they might be a bit out of my budget.

    Cheers,

I have the Premium IV along with a couple others, and I've tried several besides that. The Premium IV with the synthetic component is as effectual, if not more so, than anything I've used. They're highly recommended.

I have The latest Ambrose Chocolate Bridal Strop and its got a fair amount of draw to it. Its also a little shorter than other strops if you don't mind. I am quite content with it.

I have a very short/travel Ambrose Spanish leather strop and it's great. I was also hoping to get my hands on Jose's English Bridle strop, but he's all out at the moment.

+1 on Neil's strops. I've had an Illinois and a Dovo in the past, and have found both the leather quality and attention to detail on Neil's far superior. My basic philosophy on big purchases is to get the best thing you an afford (perhaps a bit more than you can afford), and then let the sting of the price wear off while you enjoy the quality of the item. Believe me, the quality will make you happier far longer than the price will bother you.
