Well, $140 isn't enough for a Kanayama, so I'd say for for a SRD IV 3" English bridle (the long version) and you'll still have money left over.

I'm sure the english bridle is good, but i'd like something else. I was hoping to find a second hand kanayama or hand american but they dont seem to show up

I think it really depends on what you're looking for in a strop with regards to draw, second component or even third etc. I myself just purchased an SRD 3" Red Latigo and am very pleased with it..even with upgrading to the cotton component it was much less than $140 But again..it depends on your preferences.

I realize that my DIY nature seriously skews my response.

    Having said that.

$100 will be buy you a whole assortment of leathers.
$40 will buy buy you enough d-rings and rivet, and punch to make several strops.

    Soooo.....

I'd find a local saddlemaker, or tanner or someone that deals in leather.

Then the conversation would go something like this:

    "I'd like 3x20 piece of....this...

    ....and this

    ....and this

    ....and that

    ...and this

    ...and this...."

    You get the idea

    Strops?

To the OP - Why don't you want the SRD EB? That is what I would suggest as well. I have one and LOVE it.
