Thanked: 23I was wondering if you can find pliobond in a brick and mortar store. If not would rubber cement be better than super glue to fix some deeper cuts in my hanging strop?

I'm pretty sure you will find Pliobond in the hardware sections of stores such as Ace or Sears. In Connecticut, we have a chain called Benny's. I don't know if they have them where you live. Super glue is a definite no-no IMO. It sets up very brittle and may actually cause further damage to your strop when that part of it flexes.

Thanked: 2I found the pliobond at Ace Hardware. It was much messier then I anticipated. I got it on areas of the stop that I didn't want to. After the glue dried I sanded untill it was smooth but you can tell where the glued areas are. Should I keep sanding?? It did do the job, the nicked areas are smooth. You can't tell they were nicked. I then conditioned the entire strop with neetsfoot oil. Other then the glue stained areas it came out nice.

Strop repair
I've nicked a strop as I'm sure most of us have. What I did to repair it is to energize my Dremel tool with a fine sanding drum to feather the edges in first. A little 400 grit came next followed by a cotton buffing wheel with a small amount of polishing compound on it. It took a "divot" and made it a smooth transition with absolutely no effect on the strop. If it's not awfully deep this may work for you. Good luck!!

I'd like to thank you guys because I have just gotten used to stropping and there are two or three knicks in my strop and this is going to be most helpful.

Number One Advice
Buy a cheap--super cheap! --stop! I ruined my $70 DOVO first strop (couple of months ago). But my $20 stiff strop, with mink oil applied by me and rubbed in well, has worked great. No nicks I notice so far. Of course, I learned how to turn properly.
