    The older I get the shorter my arms seem to be getting.

    I think everything can be carried to extremes but it sure helps to be able to see the results of your efforts.

    Razor stropping - Straight Razor Place Wiki

    and look at the drawings at the section "Stropping Issues".

    The rule seems to be:

    . . . The strop may bend a little bit around the _spine_;

    . . . The strop should _not_ bend around the _edge_.

    Hence the standard instructions:

    . . . Keep the strop tight, and use little or no pressure on the edge.

    You probably know all this already.

    Are you using tape when honing? Are you using tape when stropping?

    I see in the light of day that I put this question in the wrong section. Strops not Stropping. Oh well, if that is the worst mistake I make

    I have watched the videos and read articles and am doing my best to imitate them.

    I have tried tape when honing and don't like the feel compared to the bare blade. My razors are tools not museum pieces. In some ways I like the look of a worn spine as it shows that it has been used for what it was intended. I have never heard or thought of taping while stropping.

    Today my experiment is going to be to strop much harder than I think I should and see if I can see what it does. The worst thing that can happen can be solved with a few passes on a hone.
