    Default Storing a strop

    Hello All,

    Question:
How should I store my expensive strop long term?

    Long winded story:
When I bought my first straight razor I bought the razor and strop set from SRD. I didn't want to ruin this strop so I put my SRD strop in the closet. It was still in the plastic it shipped with.

I still needed a strop so I bought a Whipped Dog Poor Man's Strop. It only took a few weeks but I ruined that strop pretty quickly.

Once I ruined that I bought a Filly Strop. This took me a month or 2 to destroy. Actually it's not that bad and the pasted side is untouched.

I pulled the original SRD strop out and started using it. This is after 3 months in the original plastic. It seems fine and mty stropping seems good enough that I might only destroy this one after years of use.

That said recently I bought another SRD strop. Since I am using the original (lower cost) SRD strop. I have decided to keep the new strop in the closet in it's original shipping plastic until I feel comfortable using it.

    Long post short:
Is it okay to store the strop the way it was shipped or should I take other precautions?

    Thank you,
    --Shoki

Id roll it or lay it flat(like in a dresser drawer) you just dont want any creases

So far so good. I have kept both strops laid flat in my "closet". It's actually a steel cabinet.

Lay it flat or leave it hanging, just do not fold it or crease it and you will be OK, you can also coil one with the leather facing out.
