Thanked: 5SRD Strop Material
Hi everyone. Thank you for the great site for us newbs! I ordered a beginner's kit from SRD and had a question. The strop I got was the basic 2" red latigo with a second mesh material strop. In case you haven't seen it, the mesh strop kind of reminds me of a guitar strap (musician here). Anyway, for the first three shaves I just assumed that this strop had no use. Then it dawned on me that SRD wouldn't have given me a piece of useless material. After watching Lynn's video that I purchased as well, I saw that he recommends stropping on the second strop before the leather one. Does this apply to the mesh material strop?
Sorry for the newb question. I am loving the shaves I am getting, even if they aren't quite perfect yet. Just a few nicks. Biggest problem is razor burn so far. I have really sensitive skin.
Thank you for any advice you can offer!

Thanked: 1263First, welcome to SRP. Yes, the second strop is for stropping before leather...most do 20/30 laps on canvas and then 50/60 on leather. Hope this helps

Thanked: 5Great! Thank you so much. That is exactly what I needed to know. Well, maybe the razor burn could be due to not stropping enough. Thank you.

Thanked: 1263Not a problem at all...watch the videos on stropping technique...improper stropping can dull a razor in a heartbeat! Also remember when shaving use virtually no pressure...that'll help the razor burn as well.

Thanked: 3795Anything information you read about linen, or canvas, or cotton strops will be pretty much interchangeable with the mesh strop you have.

Thanked: 1160An as for the comment on using light pressure....you can apply that to not only shaving, but also stropping and honing. Light pressure is the golden key to all of this..IMHO .
