    Default Stropping Sounds

    Hey guys,
I'm still learning how to stop and have a question on the sound it's supposed to make. I have a full hollow "singing" razor and was wondering if when I'm stropping if you should just hear the razor sing or if you should hear kind of a scraping as well. I can get either one depending one pressure and such, just wondering what I should be shooting for.

    Thanks!

Yes, there's nearly always a sound...but it varies from strop to strop and razor to razor.

If it's making a "scratching" noise make sure you aren't raising the spine off the strop. On the off occasion that I let the spine come up off the strop I get what I would call a scraping sound...and it means I'm rolling/dulling the edge.

    Wink

I'd love to hear my strop sing, but it doesn't even talk to me. Hardness of hearing, don't you know.

There is no sound it's supposed to make. Like has been said it all depends on the razor and the strop. Many times stropping makes no sound at all. it's the result that's important.

I mostly just hear a hwshhhh hwshhhh hwshhhh hwshhhh. Maybe I have one of those ultra-rare deep ocean razors?

Just make sure your dont get a scraping sound. That can indicate that youve lifted the spine off the strop and might mean you are dulling your edge.

If it sounds like its not doing the razor any good the chances are it probably isnt!
