I used to wonder when I was growing up why the bathrooms in my Grandparent's houses had solid timber doors with a huge sod-off brass hook in the top centre. I now know the answer.

    Lightbulb so many suggestions...

I thank you all, as usual, for the outstanding posts and advice. It's great to hear how other people are doing it.
I (actually my wife) found a VERY temporary solution until I get a hook or whatever. The strop is a 3" "premium" from VintageBlades. Came highly recommended but the hook and the ring with it are too small to allow attachment in my home, except for....don't laugh....the toilet paper holder. The little plastic job that's mounted in the wall. Gave it a few test tugs to make sure it will withstand the constant applied pressure and it worked well.
WAY too ghetto to use all the time, but works well enough so I don't have to wait for a strop hook or such before I can start shaving.

What I do as well. Makes it easy when you need to travel as well.
