Thanked: 2Damn ****ed
Hi Folks,
I have been straight shaving for about 2 months now. My first razor, Crown and Sword, lost its edge quite quickly (20 shaves). While I do have a coarse beard, I thought, it was more due to bad shaving and stropping techniques. Especially considering that I nicked my first strop quite a few times. So I sent it out to be rehoned.
For my second razor, I bought myself a freshly honed vintage Le Jaguar and shaved with it. The first shave was magnificent, BBS and no nicks or cuts. However, after that each shave deteriorated. Lots of cuts and bleeders.
My conclusion is that I am stropping incorrectly.
Someone please help me..any advice will be appreciated.
Also, at the risk of not sounding like a crazy bloke..I would really appreciate it if I can connect with some local member in Chicago and learn it first hand.
Thanks,
PK.

Okay, two questions that come to my mind:
1. What strop are you using?
2. What kind of beard prep so you do?

Thanked: 21. I am using a walking horse english bridle strop with a nylon webbing
2. I always shave after a shower. I wet my face with warm-hot water for 30 seconds and then apply the lather.

best stropping vid I've seen
and one line Sham has said that finally got alot of things through my thick skull:
pressure is the enemy: in shaving, in honing, in stropping.
