Hey Guys,

Here is my first attempt at making a quality straight razor strop. I used 2” 9 oz. latigo leather, hard-pressed felt, and the usual hardware. I read that the felt was pretty good stuff for maintaining the edge of a straight razor, so hopefully this stuff won’t disappoint. I dressed the edges of the leather and the felt in black for effect, but the felt was tough to do and I’ll leave that step off on the felt for future strops. I also beveled the edges not only for visual effect but also for function. I assume the edges could eventually raise (cup), so breaking the edge should help to keep the surface flat and smooth across the 2” surface.

I haven’t used it yet because my (new to me) straights haven’t been honed yet. But they will be on their way to Lynn on Monday! I plan on doing several different color combos, (black latigo, red/black latigo, red w/brass hardware, leather handles vs. the lower Dee-ring (?), cotton/nylon webbing vs. the hard-pressed felt, and I’m building one now from horse hide!)

Everyone feel free to let me know what you think of the strop and I encourage you all to offer suggestions on what I can do to improve them. Thanks in advance!
