Default Setting up SRD Modular Strop

For my birthday (yesterday) my loving wife bought me an SRD modular strop. Given that my technique is less than perfect, I'm very excited to use this for the first time.

It came with one finished leather pad, one rough leather, and two felt pads. I have a spray bottle of 15 ct diamond paste and some .5 micron Chromium oxide.

What do I do to take the best advantage of the setup I have, or what additional parts & pieces do I need? I'm assuming that the diamond paste goes on one of the felt pads but does the Crox go on the other, or on rough leather, or what? If not that, what is the rough leather pad for?

I'm used to stropping fabric then leather. What's my approach here? untreated felt then leather? How often should I use the treated leather to touch up the edge?

    Lots of questions, I know....

    Thanks!

With regular stropping, the rough leather would be used before the regular leather. If you want to use the Chromium Oxide paste on it for refreshing, that is an alternative. You want to put it on sparingly and not cake it on. Then 10 no pressure X strokes for refreshing followed by your normal stropping regiment. I normally spray the .5 diamond on the felt lightly up and down the felt twice and let it dry over night. Then use the 10 no pressure X strokes on it for refreshing also. There is no need to use both the diamond and the Chromium Oxide. It's really one or the other.

    Have fun,

    Lynn

Thanks for the tips, Lynn. I set up one piece of felt with the diamond spray and am keeping the other in reserve. I'm assuming that the regular leather pad doesn't need any particular setup apart from palm rubbing and/or a periodic rubbing with neatsfoot oil. Works like a champ so far -- I especially like the extra width so my "x" strokes aren't quite so exaggerated.

Your leather pad should be good to go.

    Enjoy,
