Thread: The Exotic Leopard Strop !!

Before you guys start whipping out your wallets; you just can't go to Straight Razor Designs and buy one of these Beauties.

You have to earn the privilege first.
You have to be new to stropping & straight razors.
You have to be well versed in the different grits of sandpaper; that are needed to bring out that sought after "Leopard" pattern.
You have to learn how to control your emotion, when you "nick" that beautiful strop.
Just see it as another spot to add to that Leopard pattern.

Eventually this baby will go on the open market, so save your money!

made that mistake once... but fortunately the nick is small and out of the way..... hurray for capt vodka!!!

It's pretty easy to replace the leather part - afik they sell those at a good price.
BTW have you been conditioning it after sanding - that darkens the leather. The key is to use very little repeatedly (whatever you want to use e.g. strop conditioning, neatsfoot oil, just palm rub).

Edit: Note that even if you don't want to splurge for replacing the leather you can shorten it and still end up with a bigger strop than the various 'intro strops'. Perfect example why buying the best strop you can afford, right away is usually the right thing to, and the cheapest too.

No conditioning, so far it seems to be stroping o.k.. I don't know if the sandy spots hurt or they are just an eye sore. I don't drink and strop, but I do speed and strop.

Will conditioning it be all I need or should I shorten or replace it?

It'll work fine the way you use it, but conditioning I think will make it a bit better. Just rub your hands on it every time you pass by.
You don't need to shorten it, only if you want to make it look uniform. You can always strop on the part that wasn't nicked only, if you want.

if you need a hand let me know.... i am right over here at st rd84 and andrews.... we can take a run to tandy leather to get replacement leather *(they have a excellent scrap bin).....

university to oakland park.... head east on oakland... when you see duncan donuts on the left ... tandy is in that strip mall behind it.....
