I also have a latigo big daddy. It's a fantastic strop for the price. The felt is nice, the leather is nice, and it's difficult to argue with the price.

I don't get into too much buying expensive strops, I have enough leather around to make my own strops (the leather is useful for woodworking, etc, and veg tanned leather can be gotten cheaply)...but as nice as the star strops are for the price, they are probably good for everyone - but even better for a beginner because you can get a large strop, nick it up a little and not worry too much about the cost, but also not be stuck with some short narrow thing that's going to make things seem harder than they are to some beginners.

If you nick one up too badly, you can sand it (and keep it around for compound or something) and buy another one once you've learned what to not do with a strop. You'll still not be out much money doing that.
