I'd say what you are asking is not really a function of the strop but more a function of where the edge is at to be frank.

Having said that, I have found that kangaroo leather is just another leather - I have not found it to be either more or less efficient than other leathers in terms of number of laps required.

Thanks Jimbo for clearing that up. I've read in some posts where more laps were used.

I got an SRD Roo strop after watching your YouTube video out by the pool, but I won't use it until I become a better stropper with the cheaper one I have. I have heard nothing but good things about kangaroo.

Don't get me wrong, kangaroo is a great strop leather. Thin, light, strong, supple, gives excellent feedback, and does a wonderful job on the edge. It's just that I think that, in terms of laps, it's no different to other strops - if you do 20 laps on cow leather you'll do 20 laps on roo, etc.

If I were you Cajun, I'd jump all over that SRD roo strop. If you give it a small nick it won't matter. If you cut it to pieces let me know - I have a roo hide sitting around somewhere I'm sure I could use to send you a replacement strap. The world needs more people using roo strops

I have the SRD roo with premium fabric. I also have an SRD Latigo and an Illinois. The Roo is my favorite. A very light draw, great feedback, and gives a nice edge. I do think I would have a tough time without the premium fabric backing it. I have no issues with cupping, or any other issues for that matter.

As far as the number of laps and edge quality, I have to admit its all the same for me. I just enjoy the feel of the Roo over the other materials. YMMV.

    Have fun!!!

I've gotten a lot better with stropping for a couple of reasons. Your video didn't make me think a Roo strop would take fewer laps to get the job done, it was just enjoyable to watch you using it and it generated a desire to join in on the fun. (I needed that because I had gotten pretty discouraged with stropping in general.) The other reason was that I was under the impression that there was only one way to do it. Lynn Abrams sent me a PM assuring me that this wasn't the case, and since then I've become more relaxed and able to slow down. The funny thing about it is that it was only after reading his note that I was able to do it the way I had been trying to do it. So I thank both of you guys for getting me over my biggest obstacle in straight shaving. Sometimes when a member takes the time to make a video or pass along a note there is an unintended benefit that really helps.

I might start using that Roo strop pretty soon. I've been using that Big Daddy budget strop for about three months and it is in great shape.

In the meantime, I have a dog that is part Australian Shepherd. I guess there's a little Aussie in me...

Well, just on that last bit Cajun, I have to break the sad news to you that the Australian shepherd dog comes from the US despite its name .

You know, one of these days I might have to buy an SRD 'roo strop, just to check out what sort of quality they are...Then again, I already have three quality 'roo strops, so may be down the track a bit.
