D-rings, love 'em but banging the wall.

Any you D-ring strop users put up a bump rail or use another setup where you can simply release the strop when finished and don't have to let it down easy* to avoid banging the wall?

Curious before I start engineering something.

*not difficult if i remember. but i tend to "release focus" momentarily after doing XXX laps.

AS I also plan to add D-rings to my antique strops, and just hate to slap the wall--but also hate to have to remember to NOT slap the wall.

I suppose another method would to be hang the strops such that they don't hang near a wall, but i don't have room for that presently.

I do the same thing everytime and then realize it is going to bang against the wall. I never learn. I was thinking of using a door stop cushion to try and stop some of the banging.

And, no I didn't and have a chipped wall corner, where my strop flops.
A flat piece of plastic like for storm window replacement also works. if the strop is on a flat wall.

Just get a piece of thick cord and tie a thick knot at the bottom... I used to be into knots so I know a ton of them... Keep it loose so it always slides to the bottom... Now when you release the knot will hit the wall instead of the metal on the rings

I just let them drop against the door lol. Hasn't damaged anything yet just loud and annoying

I hang mine on a coat hook in a bedroom closet. When I want to use it which is not every day...I carry it into the kitchen and snap it into a heavy kitchen rack to strop D ring up. Sounds like a lot of steps....I might add some more steps...like I take a bus ride to Menomonie, WI and poke around hardware stores looking at stuff, then get back on the bus and snap the carabiner to the rack in the kitchen and strop, D ring up

Mine has a leather hand strap that goes through the rings.





It'll pull both straps tight when used, or can be used for either strap independently. And it covers both rings so no banging. And it can be swapped over onto any other D ring strop.

I suppose you could make one out of a leather belt, and a hole punch. Mine is sewn as well so the hand loop doesn't move too much.

or, you could take some nice leather lace or para cord and wrap or tie some fancy macrame around the exposed metal so it wouldn't damage the wall.

I had a similar issue with my first ever (ebay) strop, solved with string. Remained in service until last week when i got fed up with having such a small stropping surface and shelled out for a longer strop.

Mousepad strategically mounted on the wall with double sided tape or the new quick release adhesive.. If you look around you can find one that matches your Hello Kitty shave den motif.
