I am also a noob when it comes to stropping but I have researched which one I am going to pick up. Everyone is going to tell you that to get a cheap an inexpensive one to start with. I came up with these

Relatively cheap still looks good. Reviews are good besides it not being branded Fromm
    Amazon.com: Fromm Razor Strop 2 1/2" X 23" W/HDL Russia: Health & Personal Care

Poor man strop - Dirt Cheap. Everyone has been saying that it should be me first because it is so cheap

Just some starting points from a fellow noob

If you've been practicing with a butter knife and a belt then you're probably developing your technique well enough
I have 2 strops from SRD and love em both ( Red Latigo & THe Natural) Nice thing about them is you can replace the leather should you knick it for not a lot of money or upgrade to a different leather. Hope this helps

    Well:

I do reco 2 a regular dovo russian type of leather the XL one and a kanayama that you can get it outside the US in specific in 1barber. de. The 30k version it will be more than ok. Also try a paddle strop, the SRD modular one is a good idea for it. Later saving money you can try a shell cordovan one. Hope this helps.
