Spine work on Mastro Liv razors scratch Kanayama stropi
Just like the title say the spine work on my Mastro Livi razors has scratched (nothing major to worry about mind) my Kanayama 55000 strop. I can live with the scratch it isnt major but i clearly cant use the strop on my Livi razors. I have an Invisible Edge strop which is more heavy duty i am using and getting good results but was wondering what strops others are using on their Livi razors?

SRD Premium I strop. I believe my 8/8 Livi INOX comes close to abrading the strop with its spinework but so far so good. I also use the SRD paddle strop, but I use that more for CrOx and diamond sprays post honing.

You may instead consider applying electrical tape to the blade prior to stropping. That would solve the abrasion issue.

Thanked: 1587Or if you have a pasted paddle or something, some work on that over time might just take the edge off the spine work.

I had a custom razor with a worked spine leave a scratch in one of my strops once. I took a needle file to the offending portion of the spine work and smoothed it out a bit. Since then I have a default strop for spine worked razors. Until I know they won't mar the surface they don't see my other strops.

This has come up before.
I think the tape and smoothing out the spine a bit was the consensus.

Thanked: 1195I'm not fortunate enough to have a Livi, but I have the same problem with my Dovo Bismarck. I was disappointed at first, but resigned myself to the fact that I'd have to use Scotch tape on the spine. It's really no big deal, just adds another 10 seconds to the process and is a small price to pay for having a decorative razor (and preserving a nice strop ).
BTW - I prefer Scotch tape to electrical; it feels lighter and slicker on the strop.

Thanked: 154You can simply use a light touch and not rub the spine against your strop. Or contact Mr. Livi to ask him what he does when stropping razors with file work.
