Zerocool: awesome pics! 4 strops?
mrsell: Newer TM strops are Steerhide
dawills: CBN is cubic Boron Nitride. Seems like it's popular on the knife forums; Tony Miller makes a very nice strop. I have one and I love it. I wanted a TM for a long time before I got mine, so I was dead set on it from the beginning. I didn't have to shop around much. I'm sure all of the mentioned strops will do just as good a job though.

cubic Boron Nitride eh? Today is the first time I've ever heard of such a thing! haha I'll give it a try in a week or so. I've been thinking and I think it was a bad idea for me to post this thread just because its further expanded my options and I'm slightly challenged in decision making when it comes down to shopping for things
But, I've been given an opportunity to possibly purchase a Tony Miller strop so thats really awesome.
@ZeroCool - definitely let me (us) know once your awesome Heirloom strop is broken in proper. I'd love to hear your opinion since I have absolutely NO experience in traditional stropping :P

I've had my heirloom strop for about 5 or 6ish years, was my first strop (minus the practice strop I got with it) and I've had no reason to look for another one yet, the draw is great. I would recommend getting the practice strop, I ended up getting most of my cuts out of my system on the practice. Just my two cents

just to present another option that sounds like a good one to me: SRD has modular strops where a replacement leather piece is about the price of a practice strop, so if you are going to purchase a practice strop and an higher quality strop the modular strop with replaceable leather makes for perhaps a nicer practice experience.. just get all the strop nicking done with before you switch to fresh leather.. additionally you can try different leathers with this system and save money by buying the rest of the hardware once..
