Thanked: 522I would sand the back side with varying grits of sandpaper until I had a fine suede finish. Might work, might not. If money is a problem, it's worth a try.

Have an 'old styled shoe repair ' shop in your town. You'd be surprised at how much these guys know and how reasonably they work. Take it in and show him what you want.

Thank you for the suggestions guys, I have located a cobblers in the next nearest town and will be heading their way soon enough.
