    Default Fabric or leather

    New to this whole thing do I strop my razor before each shave and do I use the
    leather side or the fabric side it's a double duck goldenedge that was given to me it has been professionally honed and refurbished?

    You should strop before each shave , with fabric first then leather. I usually do thirty laps on fabric and then sixty on the leather.

    Either use fabric first then leather, or you can just use the leather only. Do this before every shave.

    In addition to the pre-shave stropping some of us give the razor a few passes on the strop after shaving. If nothing else this assures you of a completely clean and dry edge when you put the razor away.

    I will mention this:
    I keep a thin coat of oil on all my blades and I make sure I remove this oil before a pre-shave stropping.
    After I shave I blow out all the water and wipe the razor down and allow it to set for about an hour before re-oiling. Otherwise you can trap water under the oil.
