Default 3 in 1 strop - How should I use it?

Hey, fellow gentlemen, I bought this strop from ebay. It's an Illinois Razor Co. 3 in 1 strop. It has a sharpen, canvas, and finish side as you can see in the pics. My question is when/how do I use the sharpen side? It's on the opposite side of the leather. Any information you guys can give me will be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Hello,
Let me give an amatuer guess, I would say that the sharpen side probably had some type of paste or abrasive on it at one time.
The strop boys should be by soon to let us both know.
    Nice looking strop.

I've seen them where it's meant for paste and I've seen them where the leather is plain but finished rough so as to have a very mild sharpening effect.

So basically I would use the "sharpen" side with paste?
