Thanked: 109I read honedright post some time ago and I have experimented with it on the strops I have made. It works quite well. It can be a cardio workout for people like me but it is effective treatment for the leather. This strop is horse shell and quite supple with a good finish albeit some staining.
As I type this the strop is hanging in the bath soaking wet and if its present appearance is any indication of how it will dry then the problem is solved and I can move my ruminations elsewhere.YMMV
It just keeps getting better

Thanked: 32Let us know how it works out for you, I have a shell strop with the same problem (was folded) and was going to try heat to flatten it, but this sounds promising.

Thanked: 2027The problem as I see it is dried skin taking a set,it needs to be re-hydrated and pressed back into the orig form.
Tallow type lather and a bottle have always worked for me,many ways perhaps to do it.

Thanked: 109The strop is nearly dry and it is hanging straight. This wet and let dry seems a good fix. If I had very flat hard surfaces which could be warmed slightly and used to press the strop flat it would be the best but this scratches the itch.
Thank you BIGSPENDUR problem solved.
