Default Gibford Red-e-For Use Razor Strop Pig Skin 331 - Any info???

Just got into shaving with a straight so I figured I needed a strop! I picked this up for $20 along with a Wade and Butcher wedge (in the razor forum). Does anyone have any info on 'Gibford MFG. CO. Adrian, Mich. U.S.A.'
It looks to be in pretty good condition! My buddy Ironisidegnr removed a little dirt with some fine grit sand paper and oiled it for me. Any thoughts on the strop, age, quality etc? Is pigskin a good alternative to cowhide, horsehide or roo???

Keep in mind that I'm still new at this, having been at it for less than a year. I'd say it looks just fine for everyday use to me. If you do a search, you can find tons of info on conditioning a strop to make sure it's in good condition to be able to use.

I know that pigskin is a really strong leather, but not much else.

    That's a fine looking strop.

Usually pigskin is used where a tough strong leather is needed. You don't usually associate that with a strop but depending on the finishing it might be fine.

I had a strop with the hooks like that, I like those best.

Photo #7. Shows a few bumps that is going to cause a few problems. I have one just as bumpy and although it works, it feels a bit weird. Hopefully someone can chime in on how to fix that, I think small amounts of meats foot oil and lots of work. But not real sure...

I know this was posted a long time ago, but I get a newspaper from Adrian Michigan and they recently had printed a blurb about Edward B. Gibford razor strop manufacturer. They supplied strops to HMS Centurion, a British battleship. The sailors had bought one in Boston and wanted more so they got a direct order on the date of May 26th 1915.

Printed in The Daily Telegram: Adrian Michigan on May 26th, 2015
"100 years ago Edward B. Gifford, the razor strop manufacturer, declares that Adrian is benefited in a trade way by the war, for his company has just shipped three dozen Gibford razor stroppers to HMS Centurion, a British battleship, for the use of the sailors. S. F. Hutchinson, E.R.A. of the Centurion, wrote on April16, asking for the address of the London agent of the Gibford firm, stating he had bought a Gibford stropper in Boston about a year previous, and his shipmate wanted some like it. As Mr. Gibford has no London agent, the order was sent direct. Mr. Hutchinson says he could sell dozens of the stroppers to the Navy if he could get delivery promptly. "
