Thanked: 46Aluminum vs Silicon lapping film qualitiies?
Well..im soon to sell some of my stuff and move on to other stuff..lol...im very interested in lapping film but heard mixed reviews between aluminum lapping film and silicon based film...does one put a better edge vs the other..does the other crumble when being used after a few uses?..anyways...if anyone uses lapping film..suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated..I know there is Diamond lapping film..but its too pricey..or is it?

Thanked: 13249I have only used the aluminum,
It works much like the "One Stone Honing" set ups, for me and maybe I need to try the lower grits to set the bevel, but from what I have read most people are starting from the bevel set too..
Of course once the bevel is set 90% of the real work is done and you can pretty much go any direction you want after that..
If anyone is using it to set a bevel I would like to try it out, so a link to the stuff you are using would be appreciated ..
As to what I tried so far, Yes it works just fine, quick, easy, and cuts very evenly...

Thanked: 13249Yeah I have seen that page too, but it only has Disc's of Al and the 4.5 in squares of Diamond I would really like to find the sheets of Al in 3x9 inch in the full spectrum like maybe 15 micron up through .50 micron or .10 microns, basically a progression from 1k thru 30-50k
I would really like to do an almost direct comparison to the Shapton GS system with the kick at the end of going even higher...
I went to the local Tile and Glass place and they gave me a beautiful sample piece of 4x10 inch Marble counter top that is polished and I added bumper feet on the bottom so I have a great base from which to work..
So anyone with links to the full 3x9 inch set I would love to see them...
