Is there a listing anywhere of MFG's
of strops and approximate pricing/reputation with country of origin info as well?
i'm shopping now and seeing a bunch of junk that bargain hunters make possible. i hate cheap tools and those companies that foist them upon the unknowing...
i'll get by with the paddle that i made, but want a "wall hanger" that is worthy of the blade.

Thanked: 1587No, I do not believe there is such a list. That's not to say it couldn't be researched and made but of course it would have to be kept current and so on.
My best advice to you is to peruse the vendor's area for the strop makers/vendors and collate yourself a dataset that you could use for your research - dimensions, materials, hardware etc.
Good luck!

I'll add scrupleworks.com, Torolf is a true gentleman and his products are top notch

Thanked: 443Birnandos's is good advice. On a more general note, just order strops from vendors you trust. If a vendor offers brand-new razors for less than $85 U.S. I'd be a little leery of them for any of their other merchandise. That's the typical price for a Dovo Best, which is the lowes-priced brand-new blade I'd trust. Check our Wiki list of razors to avoid, and don't buy strops from anyone who sells any of those razors. That should keep you fairly safe.
I have an Illinois strop, also known as Fromm (their parent company), and it's a pretty good strop at an entry price. At the other extreme, I've got a Horween shell strop by Walking Horse, and that's a dazzling strop at a high price. You can spend as much as you want, but should be careful, as you already know, about spending too little.
Good luck and happy shopping."These aren't the droids you're looking for." "These aren't the droids we're looking for." "He can go about his business." "You can go about your business."

there are so many stickies and informative collections of info, that i didn't want to overlook the obvious.
thanks.
