Leather help please! :)
Hello, today i was passing and i was able to pick these pieces for free, not got myself a stop yet so i though i could make my own paddle. wanting to know if any of these are suitable.. these are not thick pieces they are quite thin but real leather.
Piece one. One side cream like you would have on your chair but other side is light blue
Piece 2. both quite similar but one side just got a slight better finish.
Piece 3. Light brown on one side and a creamy on the back.
If any are usable please tell me which side i can hone on once glued on thank you!Last edited by CH4x; 09-16-2012 at 12:51 AM.

I don't know much about strops, so I can't help you. Someone will answer your questions before long though. Let us see a photo of the paddle when you finish it.

Well if I understand your question correctly, most strops I've seen use the skin side of the hide as the stropping surface. If you are asking which one to use I'm afraid I have no idea.

If I was going to use those pieces I would use the back sides of the leather for my stropping surfaces. What type of paddle are you thinking one for everyday use or one for paste.

Leather help please! :)
I would give the last one the 1st try. The one that I use with paste in mounted on a piece of wood~ 8ins by 2.5in on a piece of ready cut ceramic tile. I used spray glue, wood to tile - dry- leather to wood - dry. Seems to work well.
Seeing that people have used very thing from newspaper to jeans to belts. Yours might just work fine.

Thanked: 1263You want to use the smooth side if you're going to give it a try. A strop needs to be smooth, so I'm not sure if those leathers are going to work as well as they should. Only one way to find out though...let us know how it goes.
