TM English Bridle Old No. 2 Strop
I have a 2.5 inch strop and it doesn't seem at all narrow. Very little x pattern is needed. Also If you angle the blade slightly you can easily just go straight up and down.
I wouldn't hesitate to get my next strop in this size of I get another. If you want a 2.5" strop then I say go for it.

I've got one of the "seconds" Tony Miller bridle leather strops on the way. For $30, I can't go wrong.

After reading this post I ordered one. I've had it for about a week and I think it's great. Great leather and it felt broken in when I got it. The draw is getting a bit heavier (Med-Heavy?) but is very smooth. The strop has an almost convex surface to it, to resist cupping (I think?). At first I thought I wouldn't like it but after awhile I really appreciated it. It almost feels like the convex surface is focusing on the edge as you go across it during the x-stroke. If that makes any sense? Anyway, Tony Miller makes an awesome strop and I like the 2.5" width, maybe cause I like doing x-strokes?
