Thanked: 480Hey , the face pressure thing is how I do it, but that does not make it a hard and fast rule! Plenty of others people will put more or less pressure. Over time you will learn what works best for you, and how each razor has its own "way" about it.

Thanked: 1185I got a piece of horse hide from a leather guy online. I fully intend to make a hanging strop out it but still looking for some linen for the second piece. Anyway...I have just put the hide/strap down on a piece of ash board and been using it that way. The wood is not sanded and the strap lays flat and does not move. If it does I suppose I am adding to much pressure. I have kept an edge on my DD that went to Glen's for honing so it works for me. When I do get around to making a hanger out of it I may have to learn again how to use it. This motto keeps popping into my head about straight razors. Start as light as you can and if that doesn't work add more. Seems true for everything concerning my razor from using it to honing it. That includes bidding for one too !
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
