    Default Strop nicks and reconditoning

I bought a nice strop to use after I nicked my first one pretty bad. It was a veeeery smooth strop and i loved the draw. Well I wound up nicking it and having to put a bit of sand paper on it. I used saddle soap and mink oil to kind of even things out so the smoothness is uniform. Now the draw is much different. A lot tackier. I loaned away my strop dressing so I thought the other would suffice. Is there anyway I can clean the Saddle Soap off and start again with neatsfoot or strop dressing?

You could try just using a damp cloth and rubbing down the strop a bit to remove any excess saddle soap left.

If the damp cloth doesn't work, try a cloth with just a bit of rubbing alcohol on it. If it over dries it treat it with Neat's-Footoil.

I suspect it's not the saddle soap but the mink oil that's the culprit. if that;s the case it's penetrated into the leather and probably only time will cure that issue.

I agree with TBS that it is likely the mink oil causing the tackiness. You could try repeated cleanings with saddle soap allowing it to air dry in between cleanings. Saddle soap on it's own has never left any leather I have cleaned with it tacky.

It is the mink oil. As I have been stropping it is going away. Thanks guys
