Mine was the first that I have seen with scratches like that so I wasn't sure. Probably was from honing. Here is what my scratches looked like. Kind of sad cause it ruined half of the etching.

Yeah that's pretty much the same with mine. As long as you can still pretty much make out all the etching that's all that matters in my opinion. I need to take and post better photos of mine, I have to much of a glare in the photos now.

This is what it looked like after I was done with it. I figured since I was keeping the blade looking old I couldn't have the scales looking like new so I soaked them in neatsfoot oil then sanded and polished to a shine. After that I took a q-tip and some soapy water to draw out some of the oil to give it an aged looked. This is before I finished honing it. I am still trying to get used to the weight of it when shaving.

God if only my Magnum looked like that the day I found her. That is one of the best I've seen. I've come across those scales but not once have a seen them with a blade.
I'm a sucker for something black and tuff and that straight screams both. That's a straight

The smile on it is alot more pronounced than in the picture. The angle I took the picture at must have thrown it off some. When I strop it I have to do slow, dilerberate strokes to hit the whole edge. By slow I mean slower than normal not a snails pace. I kind of have to rock the edge some to get the whole edge in contact with the strop and I usually have to do more strokes with it than I do with my other blades.

I left the patina on mine the etch can be seen on them but just barley if you turn it just right in the light it can still be seen I like them as they are but if someone likes them polished it's there's to do. if I tried to polish mine it would remove the etch. I don't shave with them I may one day but some I restore and some I just keep.

I have been doing about 30 on fabric and 60 on leather. I usually just do 20/40 with my other razors.
