Default Cromium Oxide and Linen side of the Strop

I picked up a bottle of HandAmerican Cromium Oxide Semi Paste and want to apply it to the linen side of the strop. Apparently this is indeed a semi paste, as applying it on the linen makes it hard (read. impossible) to spread it out over the linen.

I get that that I'm not supposed to cake it on there, so what is a good technique to spread such paste lightly and evenly on the linen. I'm thinking a little oil (or water) to make it more fluid and brush to spread it out?!?

    What are your suggestions?
    Cheers!

Have you tried heating it , and/or the linen strop, with a hair dryer. Don't burn it, just get it really warm. It might help.

I've try the stick form. Melted, grated, with water, with alcohol, "0" . Bought the powder, works great!
