Thread: Effect of strop imperfection?

Hello, I am brand new to SR shaving; still using my shavette. I recently purchased a strop that has a very small bulging imperfection in the middle of the strop. It is small, but can be felt when you rub your hand or finger over it. I would describe it as a "pimple". Will this cause any problems to the edge of my razor, or make the edge uneven?

Usually most fat wrinkles, stretch type marks, etc and other imperfections do not interfere with stropping. If you encounter deep ones, then that is another story. Most leathers have some amount of imperfection which really does not impede your stropping or the results from stropping at all.

Wrinkles and creases will not affect stropping as the blade will glide over the dip unless the crease is in the same plane of the blade . A Pimple or raised spot will probably not affect stropping as well. You might try tapping it down with a block of wood and a hammer. Dampen with a wet towel first, it’s how leather is stamped.

A sharp handplane can shave it level with the surrounding leather, a block plane adjusted for a thin cut, if you don’t have access to a skiver.

Never thought of that, have to put my kanna to the leather then!
