I will head off today to see if I can pick up another piece of leather (or two) for a replacement. I think I lost my grip because my hands were probably tired and a bit wet so I wasn't holding it tight enough, I had spent about 6 hours that day buffing, polishing and sharpening a bunch of razors that came in the mail.

Now, take some contact cement and apply to both sides sparingly & press back together. Clean up the excess/squeeze-out on the stropping side & put it back to work. Just remember that your skin is much thinner than your strop.

Keep your eyes on the razor at all times...they are sneaky suckers!
I would add to this that you should clamp it together to ensure as close a fit as possible. Possibly between 2 pieces of wood.

Picked up some leather this morning and have now replaced the damaged one, also grabbed a spare piece as well, ... just in case. Gave the leather a quick bath in Neatsfoot oil and when the oil was absorbed fully, I then coated it very lightly with some more oil that has some 100000 grit diamond dust mixed with it, worked it all over and tested it out by stropping up some razors, it works well, leaving the razors nice and sharp.

Lessons I can learn in this thread, glad it was only the strop that was damaged.

I've been trying to work out how this happened also, it defies all the standard explanations. So we must go into the realm of the unknown. My theory is that you were doing everything perfectly until you did a complete backflip and kept the razor moving throughout. When you came to so to speak, there it was....not that many people do a backflip while they are stropping but I have heard about it happening.

I have to put up a "note to self" about that, don't do backflips while stropping!

Yup, could have been much worse! I look at my strop with envy - it has one or two fewer niks, weepers, and slashes than I do. I think it's facing a death by a thousand cuts.
