    Default Cmon strop

Why are my photos goofy! Just one more thing to solve. Anyhow it is the strop of the day! Out of the plastic with minimal damage.

Cmon made some of the best strops out there in my opinion.
    Hope you enjoy yours.

Cmon didn't make the strop. Strop making was and is a specialty. Most strops with various razor names on them like DD and Cmon and red Imp for instance were all made by a handful of outfits. Some were specialized outfits making strops and many were outfits specializing in leather drive belts that were used way back in the day.

Got me to thinking ..... before he came to the USA, and opened in upstate NY, did Carl Monkhouse have a factory in Solingen for his C-Mon razors, or did he job them out to one of the existing big outfits ? I wonder ....

OK point taken, silly mistake, though the point is still valid from a procurement perspective. Cmon strops are some of the best out there, imo
So this raises the question TBS and Jimmy who made them for Cmon to supply and did this company manufacture for other "Suppliers"?
    All info welcome

I'm assuming we're talking the old vintage C-mon strops/razors ? I have a couple of the old strops and indeed they are first class. They had a C-mon branded barber hone as well, that was a real good one.

Sometimes the additional script on the strops will partially give away the answer. I know the red Imp Strops which are really first rate say '"will beat them like a certified check" and they have a cross with M.E Mfg Co on them so all you have to do is figure out the outfit or research the trademark. I've seen other strops with the same saying on them so you can safely say M.E Co made them too. I guess you can take that to the bank like a certified check-har har.

well if i may weigh in once again. i have two cmon strops and other vintage also, the cmons be it deluxe or blackie seem to have a way of their own. the maker is a good sign . but as i have found. the leather seems to far, i mean far outweigh the others in the lasting capabilities of the leather sans age.i do have an american flyer that is cracked but i am nurturing it back. its cracked and i will try it but i assume it will just be a wall ornament. i have taken some time with these and i know some will poo poo the effort but hell, if i have the time ,why not. i found neatsfoot oil does work but i wrap them in newspaper for a time and allow it to soak all the extra oil . most of the old ones come out great. the cmons though i just clean wipe a quick coat and good to go. old school is my way and i learn after a point that it does work . i know there are many techniques out there but i just stick with what works. i suppose that is what drives us all, the way to find a connection to the old and preserve that way or feeling
