I ask this: Are you sure all of your razor's edge is making contact with leather on every stroke?

I'm sure mine is when using a x stroke, not so sure on a straight stroke. I state this even when I am using my paddle strop & a truly straight edged razor.

I just got the Tony Miller strop and I highly recommend that.

I got the 3 inch one because I suck at the x-stroke.

My barber never used an x-stroke when he stropped his razor on the 3 inch strop. Does it make a difference? I'm sure it must but with no scientific evidence I'm not going to say it does for sure. However, there's something about slanted microscopic serrations vs straight up and down microscopic serrations that could make an edge different. That's just in my head and at this point in my learning curve, I'm still glad I don't cut my strop to ribbons every time I use it.

This gets into a very audiophile like argument about silver wire vs copper wire and tantalum resistors vs tungsten. When we are talking about how something feels vs verifiable repeatable performance testing the arguments will go on forever!

I've ruled out the Tony Miller strops. A bit too pricey for my wife and I in our current financial situation. The ones on starshaving.com look like my best value without hurting my wife's bank account (she's working part-time currently and I just started a new job). Looks like I'll be asking for the 3" Big Daddy. Thanks for all your help guys!

They are pricey, but I consider it to be the last strop I will ever get, so it's really downright frugal! Kudos to your wife for being cool enough to get one for you no matter what!

Regardless, I'm sure the Big Daddy will give you many years of service as well! Post some pics!
