Thanked: 3SRD modular paddle strop question
It finally arrived today! Lol.. sprayed one felt pad with the Diamond spray and will be using it tomorrow. I noticed that there is a definite grain direction of the felt if you run your hand across it. My question is does this have any effect as to which direction one should strop on it or just strop as usual?

I don't think the felt grain will make any difference. Its all in the spray. Your strokes, I have found, need to be very few and very light to get the effects that you want.

Good question. I three pieces of felt I use with my SRD modular strop, two with diamond and one with crox. I have never given any thought to any direction of the actual felt and am very happy with their performance.

Thanked: 3Yeah I've seen it..very informative just had to ask as I wasn't expecting the grain to be so noticeable and was wondering if it would have any negative affects. How does the premium leather compare drag wise to the one that it comes with as I find it to be a bit too slick personally as I have got used to and prefer the drag on my latigo Hanging strop.

Well, just a thought here... if you're talking a grain running the long axis of the strop, you strop away and then back. No matter which end you start from it's with the grain one way, and against the other. Not much of a way one can get away from it unless you've got lots of time and maybe OCD. But, like I said......just a thought.

the grain has never affected my stropping on the felt (w/CrOx). I do hope you enjoy the strop, I love mine

Love my SRD paddle as well - been neglecting my hangers until...... I read in a post somwhere that if your blade was honed with tape, you should use a hanging strop as the paddle is much stiffer and therefore the blade edge will not ride along the leather. Is there any merit to this?
