    Default Made a strop

Made this strop up yesterday. It's a brown veg tanned 2" 8-9oz. and felt. My cuts are ruff but everything came together good enough for my first one. I have a vintage strop I based the length and width on (Overall length is 23" stropping area approx. 18"). Works good and I'm much happier with this than my 3" strop.
I tied the leather and felt in together, never seen this before with a strop but thought it sure would be easier to hold one D-ring.

Nice work, it feels good to make your own stuff. Do you get good tension on the leather and the felt with them joined together?

Thanks, and it actually seems to work out fine. The felt is a tad long but I suspect that the leather could stretch out after some more use. I'm happier with this setup than my 2.5'' and 3" and I don't have to fumble with a second strap.
Just strop on the felt and flip it over to the leather, no fussing with a second handle to hold too. Also I think since its 2" wide it forces you to do an X stroke, which may carry over to my honing, not a horrible thing.

I made my strop, and am pretty pleased with it too, though I haven't had a shop bought one to compare it to. Found the handsanding enjoyable but it took a lot longer than expected.

Well it sounds like you put a lot more effort into your's, I didn't even sand mine that sounds like a PITA

Started working on a paddle strop today, 12" long with a 4 1/2" handle I spun on my lathe. I'm spray painting the sides of the paddle and the handle, now I'm waiting for the paint to dry.....

Yours is prettier than mine though. I needed to give mine a sand as the leather was quite rough in places and it had a few bumps from scars on it. Sanding has made it lovely and soft.
