Thread: Emergency Strop

OK you're out of town, need to shave and realize you've forgotten to pack your strop. What do you do? Is there anything you can use as an one time emergency strop? (besides a pair of leather pants)

Newspaper.

In order of preference; a good belt, jeans, newspaper, palm. Using your palm is so low on the list only because of the small stropping surface area.

I wear a pretty thick 2" leather belt I've had for 20 years, it's well broken and smooth. That would work in a pinch but I've been known to palm strop as well.
Livi has a video where he does it (seemingly carelessly) and he knows a thing or two about steel

A newspaper on a flat edged surface such as a countertop works very very well. Blue jeans on my leg or my wife's leg works too in a pinch.

And the bottom of your forearm works really well.

The palm of your hand works...just ask Mastro Livi. And i've tried it..slowly of course...and it works.

So Sun Tanned leather works well?
