Ya thats Murray's new one. I get his letters telling about what he's up to. Makes some wicked sharp knives, best OOTB edges I have seen. As long as you like thin hard steel

Ya when he apprenticed in Japan he had to shave with a straight to learn about edges, it's in one of his Bio's floating around. Oh ya the catalouges I got from him has it

OOTB = Out Of The Box, sorry I tend to use alot of anacranyms, due to crappy spelling ability

I wanted to try this with my mother in-law's meat cleaver, just to scare the crap out of my in-laws. They are afraid of anything sharp. But they already think I am crazy.

this is kind of very old,
Murray Carter. likes to use the scary sharp method of sharpening knives using micron M3 film for example. The results are as you see pretty spectacular.
Got those that are interested here is a vid of the scary sharp method:

Having taken one of Murray's courses. I can tell you this. I saw him shave with a broken kitchen knife that he honed on a 6k and newspaper. A little dove shave soap and hot water he had a 3 day beard gone quickly. And while none of the guys were lining up to feel his face, it looked smoother than any other shave out there.

He DOES NOT use a scary sharp system to get his blades that sharp. He uses a 60 grit Japanese Water Wheel, 1k King and 6k King. Thats it. The secret is not the hone, its the steel that he uses.

Once you learn how he sharpens a blade and how he creates the steel lattice matrix in his blades, you will understand how his knives are that sharp.
