Hi, JimR
I own 13 blades, right now and the were all under thirtysix dollars, even my brand new Dovo (it was a gift).
I am actually willing to put a good bit of money into a blade like that though, seeing as how it would be something different for me and I would like blade that is of better than average quality. I'm trying to save money for a wedding so a decent blade may not be so feasible at this point. I have already spent a lot money on blades and restoration equipment as it is. I got to contain the RAD, otherwise we will be getting married in a room built out of straight razors.

Kamisori Shaving Video
My dear Jim,
I like what you have done with the video.
It gets to the point quickly and keeps its focus. There is little fluff and unnecessary talk. No gimmicks. It's quite personal. Good eye-camera contact.
I particularly like the way you explain your directions and demonstrate how the razor's characteristics accomplish the shave. The video shows a clear picture of how to use one of those razors and some of the geometrical solutions a shaver must solve.
Congratulations. This is a good video.
Regards,
Obie

Well there will be little kids there, so I wouldn't want them to get hurt. Other wise it would be a shavetastic wedding.
Thank you for the look out Jim, it is most appreciated.

Nice vid Jim, looks like some tricky positions required to get a good shave.
Similar to bobbing and weaving on the sofa as I watch a boxing match I find myself pulling various faces as I watch videos like these.
Am I the only weirdo who does this??? Or just the only one who'll admit it?

Thanked: 293Great reviews, Jim. I'd been asking for a kamisori video. I can't look at it while at work, but I'm taking my Tosuke for its first spin tonight, so I'll be sure to watch your video first.
So... thank in advance. I'll let you know how I do.
Cheers,
Ogie

My wife thinks I'm a freak because I sit around talking about shaving products and technique... If she caught me watching these videos, well... I don't want to say ...
Excellent Video though. I will be looking for a Kamisori myself now. Very cool stuff!

Thanked: 326Jim congrats on being the first on posting Japanese razor shaving. Well done!
I like how you mentioned WTG, XTG, ATG while shaving and incorporated the terminology for Japanese razor.
With regards to shaving it's interesting yours differ from mine. Mine involve placing four fingers sans thumb on face on face. Stretching it various directions to achieve maximum cutting efficiency.
Shaving WTG for instance, I would do as you did on first stroke ( XTG ). While moving the blade downwards I would move my four fingers along the section that's already been shaven ( non-lathered area so it's not slippery ). While right hand shaves the section ( I use buffing motion so as to spread lather on area that's been shaved ), left four fingers stretches skin. Hope that made sense.
I'm not saying your style of skin stretching is poor. I'm merely stating what works for me.
Been reading book "Practice and Science of Standard Barbering" Milady Publishing Corp 1967
Broms Barber School Worcester, Massachusetts.
In it there are indispensable information when it comes to skin stretching techniques. Another I'm reading is "Standardized Textbook of Barbering"
by Associated Master Barbers and beauticians of America. Very good source of information as well.
The video here exemplifies that:
Barber straight razor demonstration / tutorial shave
http://straightrazorpalace.com/video...ave-video.html
I know it's dummy being used to simulate shave but take note of his stretching techniques.
Again, awesome video Jim!
