Thread: TURKISH BARBER SHAVE

That bloke sure looks like he knows what he is doing!

There was another Turkish shave video posted a while back. Seems to be a common theme with the flaming baton for loose hairs. Not sure what that string plucking thing is about, but it seems a little painful judging from the customer's face while it is being done.

Still, I would love one of those shaves.If I ever get the chance, I'm going to do one.

Here is another video from Turkey, a bit more extreme.

I wish there was even a legitimate straight shave where I live. Although that looked like a great shave I'd settle for any shave. There are two guys who do them in my area: one is known for being "so close your skin bleeds" and he finishes with a mach 3, the other doesn't really know what he is doing plus I can't go there with my daughter because of his criminal history.
I may have treat myself when I go to Spokane this summer.

I've had straight shaves in Crete, Lebanon and Tunisia. They were all excellent.

In Tunisia (Medina,Tunis) the whole place looked like i've been taken back few hundred years: The old barber and his blackened razor looked like they've been doing their job together for at least 100 years as well; and the place looked like it hadn't been cleaned for long time either. Clearly it was not a place meant for tourists but local gentlemen. I was passing by and saw few gents waiting for their turn so i decided to join the line. We had no common language but excellent shave i had there.

The string thing is something they call "threading" and is used to remove hair.....I've see a video where a woman was having her eyebrows shaped this way......kinda weird IMO.

They use it to burn off the fuzzy hair, does a good job. I lived in Turkey for two years, Turkish barbers are the best, I feel cheated anymore. I'd pay $20 for a straight razor hair cut, shave,face mask and face wax, and massage. Plus a couple of cups of tea as you wait. The string thing does hurt a little but it isn't that bad, made my eyes water a bit is all.

It took me a little bit to get used to " the works " as I'm not a girly guy, but once I got used to it I was hooked.

I have officially put this on the bucket list!

What an experience this must be.

I went to a Turkish barber in my town today and it was nothing like that. Had I known about all that other stuff I'd have been very disappointed.

My main reason for going there was to feel what a sharp razor on my face should feel like. I'm a lot further away from the perfect shave than I thought.
