How thick do you make the wedges? I'm just starting making scales. I've seen a few videos on making scales, even Charles Lewis'. The videos mention tapering the wedge, but none indicate the wedge thickness.
I have seen where people say half the thickness of the scale.

But that is also my biggest hurdle in scale making for me.

If i make the wedge too small and not tapered right my blades then don't align good when i close them.

So what i did at the beginning is taper them a little bit at a time, check it out before pinning and so on.

I hope someone else with more experience can answer this question better as i also need advice on this wedge part.

That is what i am trying to perfect.

It's just looks so simple when he does it.

Where would you get 0-80 x ½ machine screws and nuts and the tools you need to do that part?

Thank you so much for the advice.

Mastering implies there is nothing more for you to learn of something... I prefer proficient enough to not totally screw it up.

Most hardware stores, Ace or True Value around here, have suitable screws and nuts but I have not seen the wrenches. Some even have pinning supplies. In Canada I have no clue.

Also, it appears no one has mentioned the Breathing hazard of working with Bone, as i understand it, its VERY important to wear a respirator when Sawing Sanding or drilling bone so as to not breathe the bone particles... this may also apply to horn though I am not that familiar...

This is something very important for me also to find out.

I wear one of those face masks that they wear at hospitals.

Is that enough or do you need something better when cutting and sanding bone or horn?
